part of the presentation are little "get to know" cards like the one below, I still wanna redesign them to have a more handmade look but right now no time for that :Dpic.twitter.com/RWdRtRMlya

I thought mentioning "famous" Rubyists that are now mainly doing that language could be interesting like Steve Klabnik for Rust, Katrina Owen for Go, José for Elixir etc...
oh yeah @wycats is both on the @rustlang slide and on the JS slide - still blows my mind all the things he does
I've been doing JS continually since before Rails and honestly it's one of the best decisions I've ever made. People like to make fun of the concept of "full stack developer" but it's so liberating to build whole things end to end.
I mostly got into rust to further expand the scope of "whole things end to end" into areas that were too daunting for me before (a surprising number of real world applications have some important "systems programming" in them)
definitely agree
I always find it strange that people claim to know 5+ different programming languages but the idea of a "full stack developer" seems absurd and they are just "backenders who think they can do frontend" (yup I read that :'( )
Full Stack should (must) include infrastructure (ops, sec), and that's where too many lack the needed skills. Yes, even with Docker/k8s, this is not easy yet.
Well, my biggest problem with "full stack" is that I consider that a specialisation of many. It's great to have people with a good overview, but specialised component experts are just as necessary.
The bad rep of "full stack" comes from the fact that it is often used as a way out of deciding what you actually need/want.
Fair enough. I think a lot depends on team size. And I also think it's reasonable for all developers to know a little bit about how adjacent areas work. The tweet was on a personal level: I find it liberating to be able to go end to end on a product when I need to.
Definitely. Knowing adjacent work areas is important, otherwise, integration is impossible. But I wouldn't call that "full stack". Scaling with team size: yes, and that comes its very own share of interesting management problems :).
