It's disconcerting to hear that some at TC39 are pushing back against decorators. @BrendanEich please tell me these rumors are unfounded nonsense. The major projects using decorators is endless, as is the pain of this feature being forever in limbo.

I am personally optimistic about moving decorators, but it does seem like there's endless demands to relitigate whether the feature is "well motivated" despite this already being decided when we advanced the stage 2. Other features don't have to prove themselves this often.

It is literally inconceivable to me that anyone remotely familiar w/ the current JS ecosystem could conclude decorators are not "well motivated" I can't help but wonder if some people have idiosyncratic opinions against this feature, and are manufacturing opposition therefrom.

What are the arguments against it? Why isn't it "well motivated"?

The problem with an argument against on the basis of "well motivated" is nobody is required to make a strong argument against. They just have to say they don't find the arguments in favor compelling. It's impossible to defeat that argument through debate.

A lot of new people have entered the committee since decorators were first proposed. Not everyone comes from a JS ecosystem background--many implementers come from a systems programming background. I think a refresher of use cases and position in the ecosystem would be helpful.

A refresher yes. Let's do one. Another opportunity for people to object? Let's pass. I don't see us requiring this level of scrutiny for other features in the same era.

And concerningly, the current consensus on other features like fields and privates strongly relies upon repeated presentations offering decorators as an escape valve. They're deeply entwined with the current minimal design of those features.
