Cryptocurrency definitely has some downsides and I can very much see why it’s part of “tech bro” culture. I do have to say though, sending someone some coin without having to enter my information into whatever they use, is a nice UX. A lot off OSS people have addresses now.
Honestly the fact that kleros exists says everything I need to know about cryptocurrency and tech bros. I have trouble understanding why today's money transfer technology is not sufficient for these use cases (for the kind of user who can use cryptocurrency)

I’m not on the side of defending cryptocurrency, so I’ll probably agree with all of your criticisms. Getting some coin and sending it to an address anonymously is a pretty nice UX, that is all.

Except for the practical complexity of getting the coins and the addresses, and the payee getting spendable money out of the address, sure!

Setting up Coinbase and sending/receiving coin has been really usable for me, personally. Someone has a text address on their site, I can just send them some. It’s definitely not perfect, and I agree with you other than that one point.

I also don’t believe that we need this much energy wasted on people trying to figure out the next block for transfers. But wasted energy is whole other topic. I am definitely not a defender, I just see some use for it.
