I am skeptical of the idea that a lot of Rails devs (or even Rails shops) have abandoned Rails for PHP. If the overall pie is growing, relative numbers don't indicate moves from X to Y

If I told you that between 2000 and 2010: - California went from 12% to 17% of the US - NY went from 7% to 6% of the US That does not mean people are moving from NY to CA, or that NY is on the wane. NY gained 400k people during that timeframe, and still has >19M ppl.

But you wouldn't call NYC a "stagnating" city because it grew slowly in the last 10 years. Or if you would, what does that say about the "stagnating" terminology as used in SV?
