To be fair, this is how the hype cycle goes. Look at the number of companies hiring Java developers. We placed a tombstone on that a decade ago :D
-
I just feel bad for devs who become enthusiastic about rails once they realize there's work, but otherwise got demoralized by believing the bullshit in the SV environment. But yeah, it's how it goes.
-
It's an imminent lesson in the need to be skeptical of all the SV bullshit, not just around technology choices

Use whatever damned well makes your life easier. Why on earth do people listen to the internet?

They believe that HN "masters of the universe" reflect reality.

Rails is dying? I literally just interviewed at 2 Rails shops in South Florida.
-
Yuuuup. It’s a thing people say but it’s not true
-
These weren't like companies that used Rails since inception. These were actual for realsies start ups that chose Rails as their stack.
-
Right. People think rails is a "legacy" stack but tons of people are still choosing it for Greenfield apps.

We also use Rails as our core framework and built our whole startup on top of it. The ecosystem is just too good. I don't care about hypes for that type of business choice.

Such a shame also… I’m not a formally trained dev but I saw a basic demo project being built in Ruby and thought, “what a beautiful language.” Poetic and logical.”
