If Alan Kay was right that “Programming is a pop culture” (and I think he was), we can’t anchor ourselves to technologies, only to the principles on which they’re built.

@littlecalculist told me about this quote many years ago. It sounded about right back then too. It's less a critique of any specific idea and more an acknowledgement that the hype cycle exists. Also don't get too happy when your pet idea has its turn. -
The real tricky part is when the set of technologies that intersect with your principles contains only one element
