Oh and I meant to say: Because of the likely debate around trying to standardize a whole new AST (both from impl and other stakeholders) the path of least resistance is to stick closely to the spec's representations at first. I think this is a good thing

Perhaps my worries are unfounded. AST is a heavily overloaded term, so I may be misunderstanding what the design is. I'll go read the spec.

Could this be code-split? And delivered async as well? In general shipping less up front usually solves _a majority of cases_ and provides (an even more perf) loading mechanism if it can be done with this format as well.
