JavaScript code is much more expensive, byte for byte, than an image, because of the time spent parsing and compiling it. It's possible to parse and compile wasm as fast as it comes over the network, which makes it much more like an image than JavaScript code. Game changer!
It only works if you can avoid the large runtime. But that's possible.

Even if small, runtimes fight for CPU cache space. Both code/data - so webasm will push JS runtime out, make system slower overall. Benefits of webasm need be really huge in absolute size to offset system-wide drag.
