I'm really confused by arguments that try to tell people that they are morally obligated to tolerate people saying bigoted stuff. They always act like we as individuals have control over some kind of "invisible hand" of the zeitgeist.

So in all, this is just a request for people targeted by bigotry to tone down their responses, because if people get too much negative response to "gays are evil" they might not build SpaceX.

The second point here I think is the key to it all. People are great at recognising when they're feeling stifled, but shit at recognising when they're doing it to others.

But I do worry that one day i'll be in a situation where I have an unpopular idea, and have no way of determining whether it's unpopular because it's wrong, or unpopular because everyone else is. So far I feel privileged to only have faced this dilemma on unimportant things.
