      agree. there's a place for it sometimes, but it should not be the default. I've created lint rules to disallow it in most cases.

      Also, with `eslint --fix` you can write them if you find them faster to write (I do), and then they go into source control in the more clear way :)

      Lol I remember when u and @tomdale would tease @mhevery for saying "Angular is a template compiler." Now Ember is a VM. ASTs are contagious.

          Yeah, I think it's awesome that lots and lots of regular JS developers know what an "AST transform" is. It's a hugely empowering thing, and more or less a new phenomenon for an ecosystem.

          yeah! it's also cool cuz programming languages and compilers are typically viewed as really academic and impractical for industry, but it's hugely empowering for devs to write codemods or understand their templating systems.
