I was set upon this morning by "Resisters" who said I was "defending Nazis" by defending free speech and that "if we don't stop them now Treblinka"
It seems pretty unlikely that: 1. We are in a literal repeat of the Nazi era 2. The next "thought control" (your term) problem will look the same. It also seems acceptable to be worried about the President seeming to egg on folks like the Stormer.

I don't mean to Godwin this conversation but it *is* about Nazis ;) As a Jewish American who had family victimized by the Nazis, it seems ok for me to be worried about the fact that the President wink wink nods nods at people activated by this website.pic.twitter.com/2EbXVqbjws

But a POTUS sending money and arming to Iran - an actual fascist, antisemitic state whose policy is both Holocaust denial and actively Jew-murdering - doesn't bother you?
-
It bothers me (a lot) and I'd be happy to discuss why it's more nuanced than your statement implies as a separate conversation. Where's the nuance in POTUS defending Stormer-activated marchers chanting Nazi slogans?
-
You're hung up on whether Trump plays the "disavow" game to your satisfaction? He'll never play it. I'll go with the militantly pro-Israel UN ambassador, a staff (and family) consisting of innumerable observant Jews and other conduct - of his.
-
There's a difference between demanding a disavowal and him volunteering junk like "on many sides". Nobody forced him to say that. https://web.archive.org/web/20170814195122/https://www.dailystormer.com/unitetheright-charlottesville-live-updates/ … I'd ask you to read this and then decide whether there's a problem with POTUS granting credibility to it.

Trump isn't articulate enough to pull off the nuanced point about LW violence he tried to make regarding Charlottesville. That goes in the loss column. It is of no policy or practical significance however.
-
It has the practical consequence of emboldening these fanatics. And I'm not quite as forgiving about his comments as you are. He's swimming in a toxic brew (including Don Jr., who has power due to POTUS and is far more overt). Personnel is policy, like it or not.pic.twitter.com/rSfMxtZbdl

I think it's clear where we disagree. You're very concerned about optics, influence and and a perceived underlying vein of rabid antisemitic support for Trump. And I'm not. Happy to discuss related issues any time in the future
