Muh Nazism: ¤ Final Solution (Wansee Conf.): Jan. 1942 ¤ Nuremberg Laws: Sep. 1935 ¤ Nationwide book burning: May 1933 ¤ Reich Propaganda Ministry: Mar. 1933 ¤ SA thugs shut down screening of "All Quiet on the Western Front," beat attendees: Dec. 1930
So then it seems relevant to call out "Fake News" claims, especially when used to delegitimatize news organizations or sow confusion about movements that overtly spread anti-Semitic propaganda right?

"Calling out" fake "fake news" is as much a civic duty as calling out fake news. But who decides what's a "legitimate news organization" and an "illegitimate" one?
-
I didn't use the term "legitimate news organization" and am not about to start now. Did you read my tweet?
-
Yes. It referred to "delegitimizing news organizations." So my question stands. If the "Did you read my tweet?" crack indicates the level of discussion you're up for I'm probably not interested in the answer, however.
-
Sorry about the crack. Efforts by government officials to reduce the legitimacy of news organizations roughly match the timeline you posted. The more likely the average report in a publication is to be true, the more dangerous.

Interesting insight!

According to https://www.ushmm.org/wlc/en/article.php?ModuleId=10007655# …, the Nazis took control of the press by seizing destroying opposition facilities, forced sales of press outlets, taking control of the journalism "guild" and censoring content. So let's watch for that.

I guess we'd also want to be concerned about people in or close to power referring to news reports as being part of a "vast conspiracy" of whatever "wing" they aren't a member. Besides, sometimes even those are true!
-
It seems pretty unlikely that: 1. We are in a literal repeat of the Nazi era 2. The next "thought control" (your term) problem will look the same. It also seems acceptable to be worried about the President seeming to egg on folks like the Stormer.
