If this tax bill passes you're going to see Democrats campaigning in 2018 on a "tax cut" targeted at suburban voters. These voters are already the most likely to swap from Republican's and have long been swayed by GOP tax rhetoric.

The secret to the Bush tax cuts was that these suburban voters did get a real tax cut. It was much smaller than the tax cut for the ultra-wealthy, but they still took care of their voting base. This tax plan is uniquely targeted at screwing over middle income families.

It screws over middle class families *in blue states*, which is bad for CA and NY GOPers, but those folks are also pretty ideological.

They get it the worst, but families making over 100K (which is typical in suburbs) see a tax increase as well.

These people used to be reliably Republican and slipped a bit in the last election due to Trump and in these select 2017 elections shifted BIG to democrats.

I don't get it. These people have always been evil, but now it's like they're stupid, too. How do Congressional GOP leaders think this is a good idea?

They assume diffusion of responsibility will take care of it. That and they're true believers.

It's a bigger problem for the house than the Senate, since there are tons of GOP house members from wealthy suburbs in blue states. Not for long, perhaps.
