If this tax bill passes you're going to see Democrats campaigning in 2018 on a "tax cut" targeted at suburban voters. These voters are already the most likely to swap from Republican's and have long been swayed by GOP tax rhetoric.
It screws over middle class families *in blue states*, which is bad for CA and NY GOPers, but those folks are also pretty ideological.

These people used to be reliably Republican and slipped a bit in the last election due to Trump and in these select 2017 elections shifted BIG to democrats.
