To be fair, the OSS free-for-all has produced some truly great development tools. "move fast and break things" definitely breaks things, but it also moves real fast.

Yep. I think web development in 5 years will look nothing like it does today. Nobody will use webpack and all of these complicated tools. They'll use built-in browser facilities to accomplish largely same thing.

With the direction browser-based ESM and import() have been going, I don't see webpack going anywhere anytime soon.

Don’t take it as a knock on webpack because it’s not. It’s more of a celebration of evergreen and the browser pivoting to user demand

The big remaining hurdle that I see are ESM versions of the amazing Node shims that webpack has. The Rollup ones are not the best right now

But Rollup to Es2015 module then using native browser import is hot hot hot 🙌

What we’re doing with Stencil is killer. ES modules if available, otherwise fallback to our own jsonp system for loading rolled up chunks

So far everyone seems to love it and it is ridiculously fast.

Best of luck!! I hope it scales! Wouldn't want it to turn into another "we won't use webpack and instead we'll use rollup...oops" moment.

Right - can I de-dupe common content from my chunks? Can I bake in TypeScript or CSS processors? Etc

I was all for the unvarnished positivity coming from @TheLarkInn about #Webpack! but I'm a little weirded out by how quickly it's turned into attacks on competing tools.

Ah yeah read the other bit of the thread. Like I said use what tools work best. If stencils own compiler is enough and a custom lazy loader etc, that's fine also.

I don't want to contribute to this anymore, especially if it's pimping our tools. Dynamic import is a web standard. Our fallback works just like webpack, a proprietary JSONP loader.

I said if it works, then for sure! Never did I knock it. It's a good implementation, spent a few hours last week reading through it!
