Agreed. My opinion is it is considered too complicated because there’s not “one true way”. Imagine Android without a proper SDK, testing support, etc. If it all relied on 3rd parties, it’d feel the same as the web

One big challenge is the discrepancy between how comfortable different demographics are about advocating for themselves. The onus has to be, in large part, on OSS enthusiasts inside of orgs to advocate for funding work of good people who want to spend work time on OSS.

But this is not an easy problem. Given the huge amount of OSS funding that comes through this channel in practice, it's an area that deserves more attention.

The shitty thing is, getting companies to fund is like pulling teeth. It ***SHOULDN'T BE*** a lot of work to get funding for work which for-profit companies use to make money. And in a world where SQL Server enterprise edition costs many hundreds of thousands of dollars
