Anyone know why Windows can share a wifi network as another wifi network but OSX cannot? Kernel limitations?

The airport died at my parents place and I just broadcast the network from the iMac instead

Broadcasting one wifi network into another one? Like a hotel "captive portal" wifi into a secured w/ password wifi with another SSID?

Hardwired iMac broadcasting, MacBook Pro (2012 era) rebroadcasting. Never tried insecure to secure.

Right, which is the rebroadcast I was doing on the MacBook. I wonder if newer machines lost this ability? I haven't tried in a while.
