other solution: give them a commercial license, except I'm not getting set up for VAT &c just to service this one-off thing
The entire GPL make no sense. What does it mean to "link" Ruby code? You deliberately chose a confusing license to annoy ppl ;)

sorry I chose poorly but ruby itself used to be GPL and telling me I'm being a crummy person with bad motives isn't helping

fwiw I strongly agree with this interpretation, but it's simply not the common interpretation. It means GPL is pointless for dynlangs.
