Apple’s latest iPhone is always in short supply for the first few months. It’s also usually the most popular smartphone on the planet.
It ingests nearly all supply *in the world* of certain key components. This year it’s OLED displays.
Early in each generation, the demand is greater than is humanly possible to manufacture.
Google’s Pixel is a popular and (I’m told) excellent device, but it also sells in relatively small quantity (~1-2m vs iPhone 190-205m).
Google also seem to suffer supply constraints *all year round*, which suggests they could never scale production up to iPhone levels.
Its *first year* had supply constraints all year long. Let's wait a couple months to tell this story.
As for supply constraints, well… the 2XL’s OLED display issues point to continued problems in Google’s supply chain.
