Looking at getting a new Windows laptop. Surface Laptop? Spectre x360? Desired specs: i7, touchscreen, 4k, no coil whine (😭 xps13)

Been using Yoga 910 for a month now. Only complaints are little awkward right shift and only one USB-C. The other is only for power.

Does its USBC have thunderbolt 3?

Honestly no idea. How can I tell? External 4k monitor works in 60 Hz when plugged in USB-C. That much I need.

Not necessarily. MB 12" does the same without Thunderbolt.

Yoga 910 manual says USB-C offers USB 3.0 and DP 1.2 (that's what I use) natively and HDMI and VGA via adapter. Thunderbolt not mentioned.

Have you played with an XPS in person? I had no idea mine had coil whine until this. Had to put my head to the kb in a quiet room to confirm

That stinks! I think some people must be more attuned to those kinds of noises.

There's also differences in specific units. I should have returned mine for a replacement probably.

Yup, depends on the model and specific device. I don't hear any coilwhine when on a "normal" working distance on my XPS 13 9350.

serious question, no flame intent: what's the benefit of 4K on 13" screen, given the resolution of human eye and avg eye-screen distance?

1080p is a little too low res for text for me. I can see jagged edges and it bugs me. Somewhere in between likely fine.

I'm a fan of asus laptops so with these criteria I'd check ux550. and other zenbooks. better serviceability than surface for sure.

I have a Yoga at work and SurfaceBook at home. The Microsoft machine is hands down the more useful / innovative product.

Say more about the surface. The lack of USBC charging is really getting me down.

SurfaceBook screen is amazing, on the occasion I need to tear it off the base it's super handy. No usbc, but I bought the docking station
