TIL: Google Pixel scores a meager 50 on the JetStream JS benchmark. iPhone 8 is at 220. Almost 5x?!? Even iPhone 6S is at 128. Embarrassing.

JetStream is essentially a mix of Octane, SunSpider and asm.js tests. Not really representative of common mobile workloads unfortunately.
-
So I'd rather avoid sinking time into optimizing for JetStream on Android. Since the tests are computational heavy, JetStream benefits...

...a lot from the better CPU on the iPhone. If you check Octane scores on identical HW then we usually win nowadays. https://arewefastyet.com/#machine=29&view=breakdown&suite=octane …

Octane is representative of common mobile workloads?

-
AFWY should replace Octane and Sunspider with Jetstream (like the rest of the world).
-
Definitely! How about putting JetStream and ARES-6 on the start page instead of Octane, SunSpider and Kraken?
-
Speedometer 2 that uses real frameworks seems like a good way to avoid micro opt too.
-
Speedometer requires a browser and thus cannot be run with the JS shells. Plus it isn't really about JS performance only, which is what...

Ya. We have seen the best improvements by working with our friends at v8 with app perf bottle necks from real apps (like LinkedIn)

Lots of the fun issues. Where hard to benchmark until well understood

In my experience JS performance is not the bottleneck. It's the DOM responsiveness that Safari does so much better there...

http://m.lyft.com runs on iPhone 4 no problem. Recent Android phones have trouble doing animations and simple gestures

If you try this comparison on Spedometer, it probably still won’t go well for the Pixel.
