Thanks! Needless to say, the re-decentralization of the Web will be a major part of my mission @UGent.

How do you feel about broken links?

It crushes my soul a bit, every time. Then I remember that it was a necessary evil in order to scale. Links can break so the Web doesn't.

As a believer in decentralization, I'm much more sanguine about broken links. Decentralization requires compromise deep in its bones ;)

Agree on compromise, definitely. Yet I think it's a price well worth paying for the freedom we get in exchange.

I agree wholeheartedly. What about other kinds of semantics? Should semantics be enforced on all content, or added to unstructured content?

So add semantics when reasonably possible, small price to pay for interesting pay-off. But we need apps to showcase its benefits.

Do you think this is preferable to solutions like machine-learning indexing and very-opt-in solutions like microdata?

          Replying to @wycats @RubenVerborgh and

It seems like in the past 10+ years, ML indexing (Google et al) have drastically improved the availability of semantic info.

Machine learning is power for the big players, not the small. Semantic markup is more accessible for all kinds of clients, currently.

But only if content producers actually annotate their data, which is also a thing small players don't intrinsically do.

It's our job to make that as easy as possible (JSON-LD, http://Schema.org , …). And the payoffs are increasing too, also for the small.
