Is it just me or is "deciding whether to switch to another tech platform" now a constant activity of all many front-end teams?

Ah, well if it's that broad than sure, I see that. Switch to merb, switch to sinatra, switch to active model serializers, switch Postgres
-
I think AMS is probably not like the others - it's an implementation detail of part of the stack.
-
But switching to redux or Apollo is almost like a full rewrite.
-
Nah. You do it in one spot, if you like it, you expand it.
-
The expansion effort chokes out a lot of feature dev. Better be worth it.

I have simultaneously worked for different clients that were migrating Wordpress-to-Drupal and Drupal-to-Wordpress, so it's at all levels.

I wonder what the number would be if you tried to quantify the total cost of migration. Possibly trillions, at least many many billions.

I think that there is value in keeping at the bleeding edge for both the company and the developers (recruiting and happiness) 1/2

That said it’s far better to get there incrementally, and for easier to stay up there once you reach it (also ground for lots of hackatons)
