I’ve always wished I could sneak into some of the interview processes our students go through. Like a hidden cam and earpiece in their ear.

I've done it, it's insane. People are so bad at interviewing...just absolute non-sense, so many false disqualifies and so much pretension.

This sounds like a quick fix but let's add in convos about inevitable human biases too the mix. What if someone codes differently then you?

Certainly not rainbows. We always look for ways to improve the process, especially when interviewing someone with unexpected needs.

Pair programming works for us as an interview because the job involves a lot of collaborative (often pair) work.

For a more solo style job, I'd suggest something approximating the real work: do the task, then have a code review.
