As much as I would love this, knowing google it will never happened. AMP is primarily for their benefit not the user.

Google isn't a single monolithic entity. Individual Googlers often respond to reason when stated often enough.

I’ll keep that in mind, is just that when it comes to AMP it’s something that gets the worst of me
I hate that it’s skewed in Google favor -
I work for a company that usually bends over backwards to provide high performing sites with very little fat to our clients…

But none of that matter because the AMP version of horrible performing sites were appearing first in the results…

I very, very much agree that performance should be a big factor. AMP additionally brings - pre-rendering - swiping, etc.

AMP brings those things to Google Search to sites using proprietary Google tech. Those additional features should be the focus.

Agree, but I think it was the right call to try them based on the Extensible Web before going into web features.
