I don't think VDOM as it's most commonly implemented is a very good model to add. It doesn't make a distinction between static and dynamic.
Yes, if you eliminate the "just JS" part and add conditionals and loops to the template language, it works.

I also think jsx has some very powerful composition tech. So using both interchangably is very very nice. (Like pure/func to assign props)

Vue's templates most definitely have extraneous syntax. They just pretend it's HTML.

We don't pretend it's validator valid, but it's syntax valid and can be parsed by any standard compliant HTML parser.
