The latest Ember LTS release has enforced Data Down, Actions Up to the max extreme. This should be an interesting upgrade.
I'm glad you identified the root cause. Hopefully the deprecations gave you some clue that something was going on?

First app was built pre-Ember 1.10 and is comparatively huge. Second app was built ~1.5 years ago. Really speaks to the core team's work.

Admittedly some of the deprecations required more console.logs because they indicated the top of the stack trace but didn't go deep enough

But it forced me to adhere to DDAU by using more sendActions and explicitly isolating components from controller data. Really great work. +1
