Anil is building software that let's people program collaboratively. Solitary flow is literally bad for his business.

Yeah but let's take a second to ask a question. What are those conversations about? Maybe they're about work.https://twitter.com/treelzebub/status/891799955379109890 …

Point taken; I just need the ability to not hear the 15 conversations happening around me in my giant open floor with 60 other people.

If everybody goes into their office, do the work conversations still happen? What's the impact if they don't?

Conversely, how do we know what we're buying with closed offices? What do we expect to improve other than general dev happiness?

Less bugs? Increased shipping velocity? How do we measures whether the *trade-off* we're making is worth the cost?

That's the convo I want to have. I'm sympathetic to ppl distracted at work. But this is a business decision. We should discuss it as such.

Conf room aren't the same as private work spaces. They are for meetings phone calls etc.https://twitter.com/wycats/status/891802594670137344 …

Strong agree. The problem is that open plans are a hard decision in one direction. Mix of spaces and available conf rooms isn't.

So now we're talking about enough conf room, enough private space, and enough collaborative space to make *everybody* happy?

I'm arguing that there are many considerations in planning out an office. And making devs happy is just one. It's damn hard.

Yeah fair enough. Would you agree that unhappy devs is a risky proposition in a long term office plan?

So not suggesting that open offices or office plans in general are intrinsically tied only to devs is good cuz company is more than devs

Recreating a caste system within a company via office plan is silly, same plan for all because same value system is for all. Or it is a lie.
