The worst is when lawyers insist that in order to get "clean IP" you have to spend literally years tracking down old contributors.

@tmmoore_1 had some wisdom around the CLA stuff. If i recall it was around legal liability for those using software. -
Right but that stopped zero companies from adopting node. Even IBM was fine with a contributor covenant

@NASA to get sued by patent troll. I'm pretty good with how we handle the DCO now. -
The only horror story I heard had to do with massive dependencies and the mixed bag of licenses during an acquisition.
