And the fact that you think those jargons are equivalent is probably related to everyone's great surprise that monads aren't taking off.
I just had exactly this conversation with @nikomatsakis. Mappable, FlatMappable, Applyable are all real improvements.

I sometimes think it's more confusing to use general terms. You think a newcomer will know what "factory" will mean in the context of code?

Shaming? I don't think it's controversial that Monad, Applicative Functor etc are particularly inscrutable terms.
