      That wasn't the case even a few years ago. Most of my career has been trying to figure things out myself. Usually the hard way.

      Not because I felt like I knew everything. It was because a) I didn't know how to get a mentor and b) I didn't really trust ppl like that.

      The first one is not easy, but it's at least addressable. We need more companies to invest in explicitly connecting people with mentors.

      The second one is much harder to engage with. Figuring out who to trust starts to unpack a lot of what it means to be black in tech.

      Let me ask differently. Say you're not seeing what you want from ppl. What if you had more options than fire them or just deal with it?

      I can only speak for my own hiring practices, but "will we be able to find the time to meet his/her mentoring needs" is key question for us
