Debian or Ubuntu pplz: What would it take to get Ruby as a scripting language shipped by default?

afaik python is shipped by default (often) because various system tools depend on it. Maybe build a tool distros can't live without?

they shipped py3 before any tools depended on it, so this must not be the criteria.

debian ships languages in support of any other packages in the distro not necessarily system tools written by or for debian.

whether it ships "by default" depends on whether any default software requires it. Some such software is written in python3.

but that's circular. in order for software to require it, someone must have believed it would ship.

there would undoubtedly be an intent to port existing python tools to python3. Probably just seemed like a shoe in.

the 2->3 transition, like 2.6->2.7 transition was partly about EOL and the debian security pledge. @paultag would know more.

I assume there is some process by which I can press my case. I'd be willing to do work and work in the system.

Python isn't in the base install. Basically the only scripting language that's pretty deeply used is Perl

likely it's because most users have gnome and gnome needs Python.
