afaik python is shipped by default (often) because various system tools depend on it. Maybe build a tool distros can't live without?

they shipped py3 before any tools depended on it, so this must not be the criteria.

you know for a fact that no tools depended on it before it shipped? On my system, there are deps from the desktop environment.

could have been to aid development of existing python tools that were being ported. Not exactly conspiracy.

I'm not saying it's a conspiracy, just that the decision to write tools that depended on py3 came before shipping py3 default.
