Does anyone know if there's a nice way to make the windows key take on more of the role of the cmd key on OSX? 1/

I want things like cmd-a, cmd-c, cmd-v on text, cmd-tab in Chrome. I'm willing to do a bit of legwork. 2/2

if you're ok with losing the (trivial) things alt does, you can remap it as another command. sys prefs ->keyboard->modifier keys

isn't the bigger issue losing the less-trivial things the window key does?

you mean the windows key on a standard keyboard, next to control? it comes through as mac "alt"/option, yeah? think I use it rarely

It should just work? They're the same keycode IIRC. both are the super key with different labels.

which terminal? If you use command prompt/powershell then you have to go back to DOS days (SHIFT+INSERT kinda things)

        No you don't? I use Ctrl+C / Ctrl+V (in fact, I've configured copy-on-select, so just Ctrl+V)

cool, do you do that with the shell, or with something like autohotkey?

Regular cmd/Powershell support Ctrl+V for a while, but for auto-copy, console tabs and other goodness I use ConEmu

autohotkey. Bit of a learning curve but I managed to get my Windows machine to a point where I liked it in an hour.

also can make it so control+scroll doesn't zoom in chrome. That was the second most painful part of moving to windows for me.
