Disney probably has a more long term / flexible view of how to monetize the IP

Star Trek's forays into theme parks have been non-existent, and even smaller exhibitions have been marginal.

You could probably argue it ties to the fantasy vs. sci-fi nature of the two

I don't see any reason why that should be true. Probably more to do with Lucas alive, Roddenberry not :/

Roddenberry had problems, but a BDFL (and trained apprentices) always beats network suits.

yeah, but keeping a mythology going ages well across generations. Need to invest though (underinvested in Star Trek Experience)

they're both right though? Trek plays the SF role of showing current cultural issues. Wars is heroes journey story that always works

Star Trek has deep themes too. I think optimism for the future always has an audience. TNG was oddball with low-conflict, low-action

There's a matter of fantasy (Star Wars) versus reality (Star Trek). Wars is just a story, Trek is future-looking social commentary.

that's why Lucas chose Disney. They know that the IP is more important than a single movie over the long run.
