I've seen linkState getting some attention in Preact. That was in React and we removed it because it wasn't used and deemed an anti-pattern.

There wasn't really a significant history because it was barely used before. Otherwise we usually do that.

One thing to note: preact's is just an event handler creator, not the *Link prop like React's was. That seems key here?

I see. You still specify both output and input. That's better but not as much of a win over ()=> this.setState({ text })

yup. the win is that it's memoized and does dotted keys for both source and dest state paths.
