The current status of OSX/Win reminds me a lot of early-days git (not in all ways, but in this one): 1/
Have you tried bash-for-windows on Insider builds. Most of the rough edges are ironed out now.

"it's getting better" - sounds to me like: "this shit used to smell worse"
-
bash-for-windows is literally a compatible Ubuntu w/o virtualization or dual-boot "used to smell worse" doesn't cut it
-
didn't know it works that well. I should give it a try.
-
at this point, I'd say bash-for-windows (WSL) is closer to Linux than OSX is to Linux.
-
it's gotten to the point where most things work, and it's reasonable to target it as a tool dev.
-
the big thing for me was win<->linux inotify, which took a while to land but is solid now.
-
is it fast enough?
@vfonic -
yeah, for me.

Indeed! Bash for windows is great! Except when you need `ifconfig` ;)
-
bash on Windows can be enabled without insiders now I believe
-
but it's usually behind, and it's getting tons of fixes fast on Insiders. But yes.
-
Still, though, what a thing! a real, honest to god bash session on windows. Windows 10 is the best it's -ever- been.
-
right. If it's not *almost perfect* in a year I'll revisit my feelings, but the pace of progress has been inspiring.
-
yessss. I am so happy with MS right now, and I'm showing it by buying their stuff.
-
when does that bad boi show up

what about Win getting slower over time...just because? You get updates requiring restart almost every day on insider.
