For people telling me about 3rd party tools you can use to get "maximize" on OSX, that's what I'm saying the problem is!

Hard to claim MS is "just catching up" when it's significantly innovated on Windows mgmt while OSX still requires 3rd party for "maximize"

Or holding down the option key…

holding down the option key absolutely does not produce reliable "fill the screen". Try in Finder in Sierra.

Aha. The previous "protipper" on Twitter told me alt. Option works. But clearly not very discoverable.

Confirmed via https://support.apple.com/kb/PH25079?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US …. Still baffled about how this is not default!

Yeah. They were pushing the full screen thing pretty heavily. There might be a default that you can set to switch the behaviour.

it seems like you can change the behavior of "double click title bar"

don’t you just Option-click the green window button…?? Either fills screen or fits window to content, whichever is appropriate?

"whichever is appropriate" is exactly the problem. I want "fill the screen" not "Apple knows best"

I feel the use case of "fill my screen" is not very niche. Windows and Linux has it. People DL 3rd party apps for it.

"Apple knows best" is just a silly default here.

Any particular apps? I can only speak for myself but it's not bothered me to date, e.g. Pixelmator fits to image etc

If "full screen" wasn't so obnoxious and didn't create a new workspace I'd like it better.

Windows needs a solid equivalent to Preview. Reader was decent but it seems to be discontinued after win 8.

Preview is just so convenient to split, merge and export PDFs. I end up copying files to mac many times from windows.

ah fair enough. I mostly use Reader (Trusted Windows Store app) but it doesn't have those features.
