I find this to be much less true outside of the SV bubble
-
-
-
right, but the SV bubble owns the oxygen, so it's hard to talk about this. Not enough talk about entry-level programs.
-
true. I always assumed that listings that said 1-3 years of experience included things like internships, boot camp, open source, etc
-
which is common in every industry. No one is entitled to a job with literally 0 experience
-
it's not about entitlement, and more about the fact that every industry needs an entry-level pipeline & we don't talk abt it
-
what is an "entry level pipeline?"
-
the process by which companies hire new devs w/o experience and train them.
-
ah. There are some really interesting conversations happening at LinkedIn and Etsy I hear! But yes the industry sucks at onboarding

that's because software is mostly a blue collar job. And blue collars don't hire blue collars. Hiring mgrs are sales or hr reps.
-
sounds like a bug, but yes.

this is one of the more thought provoking replies I've seen.

ty, I'm good for about one a year.

I mean, you do believe in Bitcoin, so I have a large grain of salt ready. (I kid I kid)
-
well, it's a solution to a problem most people don't care about: secure, permissionless, trustless (but slow) transfer of value.
-
whether they should care...not sure. That said, I think the problem is big enough that the innovation is here to stay. salt is good
-
I want someone who believes in the risks of deflation to explain Bitcoin to me.

as opposed to law or medicine where advanced degree is prerequisite?
-
advanced degree is a well-trod entry level program. Hired as an associate is a thing. Residency is a thing.
-
those are prerequisite and barriers to entry set up for rent seeking purposes. I like our open and free system
-
I agree, but we don't have to choose. Companies need entry level people but our industry is not set up for it.
-
especially small companies, especially product companies, and especially companies with VC.
