I'm well aware of the disconnect, and I'm also annoyed when people describe MO stuff as representative of all Orthodoxy. NOPE

The degree of disconnect is in many ways sad but unsurprising. Cultural/educational differences can be pretty extreme.

Still, there are degrees - disconnect, indifference, apathy, disdain - and they're reflected in how people define "us"

Ugh, I've read about that. I believe it stems from an us vs. them view of government derived from actually hostile European 1/

governments. The same view prevails here in Israel too amongst haredim. I wish I had an inkling of how to change it. 2/2
