I was very tempted (especially after seeing
@svgeesus’ Dell), but I’m way too addicted to the Apple ecosystem dammit :( -
-
what are the key aspects of the apple ecosystem you'd miss?
-
It's many small details. E.g. Keychain.
@svgeesus tried the best Windows password manager and it's a trainwreck. -
hm... I've been using 1Password4 for Windows, and while it's not winning beauty contests, it works flawlessly
-
Interesting how it's getting harder to name a deal breaker. It's more about overall aesthetics now.
-
Many small things != aesthetics. And even if it was, aesthetics are important.
-
I think he was replying to my "beauty contest" line. Most things ppl mentioning are outdated.

how's the trackpad on the xps? Apple's trackpad would be one of the hardest things to give up
-
it's a big glass track pad that feels pretty similar, and I rejected a lot of trackpads in the past on these grounds.
-
for the longest time my sticking points were trackpad and hidpi. Those problems are mostly solved these days.
-
windows still has a shitton of legacy apps with bad hidpi support, but that's fading.
-
Gnome has f***ing awesome hidpi support.
-
which distro do you use?
-
Gnome Ubuntu. Far and away the best option for modern UI and maximum ecosystem support (minimal need to do stuff yourself)

is 8GB really the max in those things?
-
whoops bad website :) Found 16GB version.
-
any chance of you writing up your biggest issues on the change from MBP? I used to use Linux full time on laptop but it was long ago
-
that seems reasonable... it's been a while now :)
-
I still use OSX at work on the pairing machine so I have a right-now lived experience of all three OSes O_O
-
yeah I have also but my linux days was 2000-2005 or so…very rusty :) I did dogfood windows for jruby dev 3-4 years ago. painful :)
-
2016 is the first year I genuinely feel ok using Windows or Linux. I've tried many times.
