Why do the norms at YC allow Thiel to directly and aggressively support Trump, but discourage other partners from publicly objecting?

Either they all agree with Thiel, which is a problem, or they feel duty-bound to keep quiet, which is a problem.

the VC line I've heard repeated is comparing Trump to Travis Kalanick. "Our asshole" who'll run roughshod over regulation/obstacles
