      Spotting returns is valuable to avoid accidentally putting teardown logic after early conditional return

      Well put. Being able to "see" the control flow graph is valuable; as is early-return (and no else-after-return gaffe!).

      the kinds of guards I'm talking about are very visible: function f(b) { if (!b.isValid) return; // rest }

      When condition is long I could miss return at the end. But it depends for sure.

      if the condition is long, I don't consider it a "guard" and don't use this style.

      to be honest, I have no problem with any style, just speaking out against zero-tolerance for braceless, which is dominant

      not that great for debugging; you gotta break on the evaluation or before & step through

      just experience; i prefer succinct debugging. if something takes too much effort to debug it’s probably not great

          it's not "hard"; it's just the lost time that adds up. i spent a day this year trying to debug 5 levels of deps 1/2

          i could've saved some time (hours) had some libs been a little friendlier to debugging 2/2

          braceless can result in harder targets which results inure time; not meant to be a blanket statement, depends on the code

          if (condition) return; doesn't suffer from that problem.

          it can; your pref is pushed downstream and can add costs you don't expect for persons dealing with it
