I'm saying there's a useful distinction between hypermedia and "the media type used by browsers"

The hyperlinking of text/html, text/stylesheet, image/*, audio/*, video/*, application/* is what makes the web browser work.

I don't agree that it's broken by JS. Media types are allowed to require clients to perform well-specified processing steps.
