simple! Learn to use a profiler in one (1) engine. Create a microbenchmark, and refine it until it supports your preferred style

that hasn't worked for me at all. Microbenchmarks don't consider the effects of real units of code and inlining.

which is not a minor detail. Code that is inlined with callbacks can deopt like crazy and be very macro-slow.
