We're addicted to hand-wringing about walled gardens on the web. Guess what a silo that obstructs outbound links actually looks like? Dead.

Walled gardens are probably a natural phenomenon as website operators try to make money
-
So possibly best remedies: 1) Make it easier to monetize unwalled gardens 2) Make it easier to link out of gardens
-
(2) is easy. Links are text, and all wall gardens support them. People use them, too.
-
(1) is getting better too with things like Apple/Android Pay on the web (also active hand-wringing)
