When ppl decide that "native is just a better experience, obviously", they almost always forget to count the MINUTES to download the app. 7/

"These newfangled frameworks are forcing me to download <gasp> 1MB" forgets about the 30MB of the native app. 8/

Service Worker and *even app cache* make it possible for the 2nd click to be instant. Compare 1st hit experience and web wins hands down 9/

The moral of the story is: when comparing web vs native for content, compare apples to apples. The conventional wisdom doesn't. 10/10

@wycats but wouldn’t most people be conditioned (by iOS warnings etc.) to download apps on wifi, not cellular data?

@wycats …whereas the expectation is that you can load a website anywhere.

@kapowaz @wycats I doubt it. I don't even remember seeing such a warning on Android. Also: assuming wifi is an even worse user experience.

@martiell @wycats but certainly it’d *make sense* for people to learn that apps are better downloaded on wifi, wouldn’t you think?

@kapowaz @wycats I think it'd make more sense for companies to learn that users often don't want to install their crappy app. ;o)

@kapowaz @wycats Not really. The issue is whether native is a better experience. If apps need wifi to be downloaded, then exp. is worse.

@wycats it is sad how restricted web developers are when it comes to offering that app install option.

@wycats I'd like to intelligently make that offer based on smart heuristics. In reality, we hardly know if you've already got the app.
