Strongly disliking that we describe engineers with 2 years coding + (a theoretical physics degree | 10 years as an artist) as "junior"
-

@wycats I can believe that. I always get classified as Junior by others but I don't feel like a Junior engineer. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ -
-
@typeoneerror@wycats Probably an HR requirement so they cna know the pay ranges or whatever. -
@kwuchu@typeoneerror but experience in art, math, teaching, etc. are all hugely useful in your job as a developer! -
@wycats this fine arts grad would tend to agree. my skill-set is weird and wacky compared to CS students. good for business. - End of conversation

@gnclmorais@wycats@kwuchu "Developer" sounds pretty fricking fine to me -
@pamasaur@gnclmorais@wycats Yep. I think Netflix doesn't use any seniority rankings or something like that. They're all just Engineers. -
@kwuchu@pamasaur@gnclmorais We cribbed "Member of Technical Staff" from FogCreek, which cribbed it from Bell Labs. -
@wycats@kwuchu@gnclmorais "Staff Engineer" is pretty cool if the meaning propagates - 1 more reply
