A few weeks ago my platform markets class professor said "Uber drivers hate other Uber drivers" & I haven't stopped thinking about it since
@susie_c This feels like a made-up observation. I have not noticed this to be true at all.

Yeah, an economist who studies the organization of platform businesses & competition probably has no idea what she's talking about
@wycats -
@susie_c it's an observation about what's inside the brains of certain humans, not an economic observation. -
No, it's an observation about how the labor market works, you're just taking "hate" at face value.
@wycats -
@susie_c so it's an assumption that all groups of employees hate each other, without exception? -
Uber drivers are not employees.
@wycats -
@susie_c ok, all groups of independent contractors hate each other? -
They're economically at odds. If there's one gig & two workers, one worker won't get paid. There's no sharing.
@wycats -
@susie_c yes, in that case they'd be competing, but not every situation is zero-sum. - 6 more replies
