@wycats reading replies... Also excludes folks who lack access to good office space; I would include myself in that. Coffee shop /= good IMO

@YitzOfTheBits And this as well. I worked remotely for over a year once and would never want to do it again.

@wycats I think it’s equally as exclusionary as not allowing any remote work. Different people work in different ways. I like a mixture. -
@wycats I have worked in HQ, distributed office, full-time from home and I preferred the former the least. -
@tylerwillingham were your coworkers at HQ good? -
@wycats fantastic people. Actually, the people at HQ are some of the most influential people on my career so far. But (cont.) -
@wycats those same people are also pretty damn effective at communicating with non-local team members so I feel I’m not missing out -
@wycats I find our developers to be highly effective at remote communication. It’s other departments that I think could see an improvement -
@tylerwillingham so you didn't enjoy working in person with fantastic people? What am I missing? -
@wycats I'm too extroverted. I can't get programming work done if I'm surrounded by people I'd rather be talking to than working. - 1 more reply

@wycats no. There might also be personal reasons to prefer remote (like family) -
@robertoguerra19@wycats I assume he means remote-only as in, must supply laptop and be capable of working remote. Lots can't. -
@rkulla@robertoguerra19 also, some people don't thrive in highly individualistic environments. -

@wycats I would like to understand this better. How do? -
@sarajchipps@wycats I assume some people greatly prefer working in groups and in person. Remote only means those people pass on the job. -
@DotProto@SaraJChipps This is what I had in mind. Remote-only work has a strong individualistic streak that isn't for everyone. -

@wycats remote employees get to choose their office environment and their level of isolation. I've worked from coffee shops, beach, hotel... -
-
@_ericelliott@SlackHQ the bandwidth of those is too low for many kinds of collaborative work. -
@wycats@SlackHQ As somebody who has done lots of both office and remote work, I Disagree. Strongly. =) See:https://medium.com/end-homelessness/the-cure-for-homelessness-83ef0d621c71 … -
@_ericelliott@SlackHQ having worked remotely for years in the past, I see benefits to both. Which is what I think@wycats was saying. -
@_ericelliott@SlackHQ@wycats a mixed schedule is best, I think. Gives the best of both. -
@BenLesh@_ericelliott@SlackHQ@wycats I work remote, and meet up with the team a few times a year. It's amazing and I could never go back. -
@AdamRackis@_ericelliott@SlackHQ@wycats in particular, remote employees are easier to dispose of. - 1 more reply
